Calpe´s old town has a very typical spanish feel to it and next to it towards the sea lies the Urbanization La Manzanera and leads to the secluded Cala Manzanera. The urbanization has many interesting buildings including the Muralla Roja (the red wall), the Amphitheater, Zanadu and Las Castillas all designed by , a renowned Catalan architect. Due to the expansion in residents in the last 20 or so years Calpe has now a vibrant shopping centre with many local shops as well as some of the larger supermarkets. |
|
| The vibrant seaside promenade is home to many local restaurants and bars, while those looking to immerse themselves in Calpe’s rich history can visit the ancient town centre, the Iglesia Vieja church and the ruins of a Roman villa. For the more adventurous the view from the top of the Peñon d´Ifach has a marvelous panorama of the port, las salinas, the whole of Calpe and the Sierra Bérnia that surround Calpe. There is also a very informative museum at the base of the walk which explains some of Calpe´s history. |

The harbour is used mainly as a marina for leisure boats of all kinds but is also still used as a working port for a small local fishing fleet. They return to the port in the afternoons and followed by a fish auction. The harbour is host to many wonderful restaurants that specialize in fish and seafood and whose displays at the entrances are well worth a look, as you stroll around the port. |
The Fonts d´Algar (waterfalls) are a short drive from Calpe in a beautiful nature reserve near the town of Callosa d'En Sarrìa. The land surrounding the waterfalls is covered with terraces of orange and lemons as well as "nisperos". The waterfalls and park are a great place to cool off away from the beach and a chance to see the interior. The route is well signposted from Callosa d'En Sarrìa. There are parking facilities at the many restaurants located at the bottom of the nature path. Further up the road you will also find a fabulous cactus garden which is worth a visit and also a good place to pick up some fresh local honey. |
